Hi party people!! Happy September and happy Virgo szn <3
I wanna try to keep this newsletter short and sweet! Because I have a lot of fun updates, let’s get into it~~~~~~~~~~~
First, please join us for another installation of WASHING at the Chinatown Gate park (Chin Park) on Thurs, September 16 at 7PM! This will be a little different than last time - I am projection mapping the film onto a house sculpture (!) - see below for some progress pics. This has been a really interesting and fun experiment and I hope you can join :) I’ll put a flyer down at the bottom of the newsletter too - please share with your friends!
I also want to share some nice projects that I’ve had the pleasure to work on this summer:
I made a fun and sweet art kit for the ICA ArtLab - The Worrymobile! Learn how to turn your worries and fears into a hanging mobile! The ICA sent these art kits out with food and crafting supplies for East Boston families in April, and the activity is online for folks to do at home now <3
My collaborators Elizabeth and Cynthia at the Data + Feminism Lab published a blog post about “We Never Wanted Him Here”, the zine about Christopher Columbus we made together earlier this year! Read the blog post, and read the zine online here (or a request a copy of your own). I’m super proud of our research and work on this zine, and excited to share it with the world :-)
More zine content - Chinatown Story Cart, my project with AsianCDC and collaborator Crystal Bi Wegner, had our closing celebration this past Saturday. For the event, local artists and youth including Hai-Wen Lin, Ponnapa Prakkamakul, Yuko Okabe, Shaina Lu, Maria Fong, and more made zines about their experiences in Chinatown. So many wonderful people showed out and it was a gorgeous day - shoutout my beautiful friend Celina Fernando for this great recap video! Here is the only photo I remembered to take during the event 😅
Lastly….school officially starts TOMORROW! 🤢🤪🙃🤠 although I actually had my first class last week, an animation studio with the amazing Ruth Lingford (thank you Maria for showing me her amazing animation about orgasms). Here’s bb’s first animation 🥺 a book animation with Machi Tawara’s beautiful Salad Anniversary. Sorry the gif quality is so low!
